Photographing the Palouse with Alan Lawrence & David Julian
Join professional photographers and instructors David Julian and Alan Lawrence on a rural adventure to explore and photograph amazing history, landscape, buildings, rusty vehicles, livestock and wildlife.
PRICE INCLUDES ACCOMODATIONS, BREAKFASTS & TRANSPORTATION WHILE IN THE PALOUSE!!
Eastern Washington's Palouse is a rich farming area of almost 3000 miles reminiscent of Tuscany. We explore hills of greens, golds and coppers against a the blue of clean skies. We capture the colors of sunrise, shoot in late day 'sweet light', sunset and spend time in between shooting textures, aged machinery, and old structures plus serendipitous surprises. We shoot starry skies and a wind farm. Of course, we include opportunity-timed trips to Steptoe Butte!
We also show you how to develop your photos in Lightroom or Photoshop to reveal the best color, contrast and detail. If you love rural history, the richness of the earth contrasting the patina of aging wood and metal, this trip is for you.
BUT WHY US?
We're not another cookie-cutter Palouse photo tour. You benefit from our countless hours of scouting, research, planning and making local connections. We visit locations we've discovered that are not on the photo-tourism maps. We also visit a famous fifth-generation farmer, learn rich Palouse history and sustainable farming.
We house you at the perfectly-located Best Western in Colfax where you will enjoy a queen sized bed and included breakfasts. We drive our participants in a comfortable van throughout the tour, saving you hours of trial and error when you could be shooting. Our trip is timed to take advantage of great weather, long days, ripe crops and long Solstice daylight. We provide instructional guidance, individual coaching and options for your solo wandering during the off-shooting hours.
NOTE: We've created the very lowest-priced tour providing both housing and transport, daily guidance and professional post-production tips, plus the unusual ratio of two gifted local instructors. Many have enjoyed our way experiencing the Palouse!
TRANSPORTATION:
All transportation during the workshop is provided. We roam the Palouse in a single passenger van. This minimizes our impact, allows for discussion and greater spontaneity for opportunities. While most folks drive in from Seattle, some folks fly into Pullman 30 minutes away and carpool or take a shuttle to Colfax.
PHYSICAL HEALTH:
Participants must be able to get in and out of a multi-seat van without mechanical assistance. We park within 50 yards of most subjects, and hiking beyond that is optional. Those with significant allergies to agricultural pollens should bring sufficient meds. You can find dietary food alternatives wherever we eat.
We'll email more details on what to bring closer to tour date.
