Colorado Rocky Mountain Photo Workshop Adventure

Weminuche Wilderness-the brightest jewel of the Southern Rockies

July 20-24, 2020

As of May 30, we're STILL on. We will, of course, follow CDC and State of Colorado recommendations to insure the safety of our guests and staff. But, as of now, having spoken to our outfitter, we are good to go. And, Heaven knows we'll need some time in the mountains to get a better view of the the pandemic craziness.

The Colorado Rocky Mountains offer some of the most beautiful, jaw-dropping views in America. The southern Rockies shine brightest of all. Sharp, craggy 14,000 foot peaks pierce the crystalline clear azure sky. The Weminuche is an undeveloped, pristine wilderness roughly 2/3 the size of Rhode Island! At just a whisker under 500,000 acres, the Weminuche is the largest wilderness in the state of Colorado. The wilderness designation prohibits motorized vehicles of any kind. That means 4 magical days without cars, trucks, ATVs, motorcycles or even bicycles.
To see this majestic country, you either hike it or hoof it!
This is an unparalleled opportunity to photograph alpine wildflowers, rugged mountain landscapes, waterfalls, glacial lakes, and, of course, authentic wranglers, camp scenes, and horses.
Our guides will pamper us with all meals, tents and sleeping gear, Don’t worry about having to skimp on your camera kit. Pack horses will carry our gear for us. Yay!
Everyone gets their own tent or you can share with friends or family. All meals provided for Monday lunch through Friday lunch.
You need not be an experienced rider to participate. Randy has a stable of gentle, well-trained horses. But, then again, if you really don’t like to ride, I’m sure Randy can rustle up a horse that really doesn’t like to be ridden.
The camp is at 10,500 feet above sea level. Throughout the week we may ascend to as high as 12,500′ affording us some of the best views in Colorado! The US Forest Service restricts the number of heartbeats on a guided pack trip to 25; which includes horses, wranglers, and photographers-everybody… So, this workshop is limited to only 8 participants.

This is not just a photography workshop. It is a life experience!

Materials Needed

  • Camera-DSLR, Mirrorless, Point & Shoot doesn't really matter, we'll have amazing things to shoot!

I'm a big believer in tripods. We'll have pack horses to carry our gear. Still, if you don't want to lug a big tripod on your trip, I get it. There are lots of travel tripods and even table top tripods that will work fine.

See more equipment suggestions here: http://www.coloradophotoworkshops.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=313&action=edit

Prerequisites

  • This workshop is open to all photographers-beginner, advanced or even professionals. Everyone will enjoy it. Don't worry about your gear! Bring what you have. There's no question that today's amazing phones have incredible cameras on board. Still, I prefer that whatever you bring to create pictures doesn't also make phone calls. But, it that's what you have, so be it.

A dslr camera and a couple of lenses will handle the photographic opportunities that we'll explore. We'll have pack horses to carry our gear, so don't think you have to skimp on kit.

If you've just bought a new camera-congratulations! Spend a bit of time with it prior to arriving. That way, you'll have better questions.

A tripod will make the difference between getting beautifully sharp images and a bunch of blurry pixels that you just end up throwing away.
