FEC Editor’s notes: Telling a story is such an important part of making a photograph. In this image, you’re first startled by the bold contrast of complimentary colors. But then you’re completely absorbed in the story taking place of the lives of these women in the rice plantations. We often get so focused on details, but sometimes the best image pulls back and shows more of the environment.
