Then, Rick Maio continued educating young photographers at Emory, The State University of New York at Buffalo, and Rochester Institute of Technology. He has worked in ophthalmology imaging for over 25 years. Then, in 1999 he developed the first high-resolution digital imaging system in ophthalmology and has continued working in the commercial sector since then.
Galleries and personal collections across the country feature his personal fine arts photography. George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film purchased his series “Against the Grain” for their permanent collection.
The Industrial Photography Workshop
The industrial photography workshop that Mark Maio is hosting in Buffalo, New York will take place in Silo City. Silo City encompasses six acres of historical abandoned grain elevators. The landscape gives participants plenty of uniquely beautiful opportunities to create images.

Mark Maio gets his workshop structure from attending the last Ansel Adams workshop. Mark Maio focuses on why images are created rather than the equipment and technique that are used. Mark’s teaching style is very much like that of Ansel Adams.
This industrial photography workshop will take place from August 1 to August 3rd. This workshop also focuses on individuals instead of the group. Silo City requires attendees to go through an initial safety walkthrough. Then, they can walk through Silo City at their leisure and take photos.
