Location photography can no doubt be challenging, but going into any shoot without a clear plan is simply asking for trouble. Ian Spanier has worked with many high profile clients, and knows that in almost every case a second chance is not feasible. He places a lot of emphasis on the creative process and steps that he takes prior to the actual shoot. Ian has sketched out every photo shoot that he has ever done, essentially creating an archive of best practices for different types of shoots and locations.
As Photographers, our main job is to freeze moments and tell a subject’s unique story. We are, after all, capturing a distinct and passing moment in time. Lighting is just as much a part of telling that story as the subject of the image is. In Ian’s unique and educational lecture series, he goes into distinct detail about strategically placing lighting, and what to do when the best-laid plans fall through. Aside from time for Q&A, Ian also includes a live demo of one of his many lighting techniques.
All too often photographers these days think they need tons of equipment to make a good image. This can get real expensive.
