Meet Heather Chesky, Fisheye Connect’s insider on creative photography business practices! Nearly four years ago, Heather heard the words “I’m sorry but we have no choice but to let you go” They drastically changed her life. She was unexpectedly laid off from her “steady” job with no notice or warning. She had a 1 year old at home and a family that desperately needed her income to make ends meet. Photography had been her hobby at the time, so she figured “maybe I can make it into a business.” And that’s exactly what she did.
She did a lot of work, spending late nights on her computer, taking every client that came her way (even the wrong ones). She invested in her education and gear. She poured herself into her photography business day and night and it grew. And grew. And grew. Now, she’s bringing in more than 3 times the amount that she did at her old day job!And now it’s your turn. You, like most photographers out there, want more. More clients. More confidence. More income. More strategy. More time. Has anyone ever told you you’re your dream is worth pursuing? It is. What you have to offer the world through photography is meaningful. What you do has value and you are meant to make an impact through your camera. If you don’t believe that just yet, that’s OK, this is precisely where Heather Chesky comes. She’s here to help you see your worth, get beyond hobby status and help you make income and be mpactful through your camera. Interested?
Coaching is vital in helping you get your business to that next level. A Coach comes along side of you, provides you with focused direction, proven strategies, direct advice, accountability and a structure of ongoing support that will spur you on towards achieve your business goals. Heather shared some of her photography business coaching experience with Mike Moreland of Fisheye Connect. After discussing the initial frustrations she had with growing her business in this Fisheye Connect podcast, Mike and Heather delve into her successful model program called Photography Sessions Excel: How to Create a Baby, Tween, or Senior Model Program. This marketing program has proven great for photographers wanting to get more clients and grow their “fan base”.
Heather’s model program for high school seniors gives perks to members while also enabling the growth of her business. It created so much success in her own business that she decided to start offering coaching to others about how to start their own modeling programs. Offering a program like this really helps to drive business during the slow seasons. The basic idea is that you invite a lot of your ideal model base to a meeting about a model program, and the models come with cash in hand. It gets clients on the calendar with payment during those slow seasons, gives those clients perks, and also creates community.
Now that her program has some fame, she only lets clients who are already part of her program recommend others to her program. This gives even more incentives to clients to be a part of the program just for being chosen to be a part of the it.Heather also likes to hold team photoshoots. Having a big event like this can help create a community among your clients, and can also help you market the program. When you take their pictures and have them all share the picture, it gets your program and photography business services out to more people. She puts together events that meet the needs of clients while also creating and supporting that group or community atmosphere.
